“The area where the couple live is affluent and heavily Republican. Neighbors who clearly were aware of the event in advance planted Mitt Romney campaign signs in their yards for the occasion, in addition to making some signs of their own.

“Free markets, not free loaders,” said one sign at a home across the street; “The bro has got to go,” said another nearby.”

First, I have no problems with wealth. If you’ve got money, great. Good job.

Second, contrary to how it may seem, I don’t really have issues with republicans - the two-party system is flawed as hell anyway.

What I do have a problem with is a sign re: Obama that says “THE BRO HAS GOT TO GO…”

Seriously? Someone made a sign/had a thought like that and made it public? I’ve never been able to resist comments or jokes that may be a bit inappropriate or off color, but I’ve shared them privately with people who enjoy exploring different facets of humor with the understanding that it’s all in fun. I don’t really want to eat that baby.

Is it wrong? Probably.

Still, “THE BRO HAS GOT TO GO”? In public? Even if it was meant in jest, this yard sign show that race is still a huge underlying factor in this election. It’s depressing because I grew up believing we were past that, but as I grow older I see that we’re so not past that.
