Jack Johnson is one of those musical choices (along with John Mayer) that people give me hell about. I like the simple, laid-back, songwriting and melodies. Plus his songs taught me barre chords. He has a new album coming out in September. I will be listening to it.

I’ve been accused of being a really happy, optimistic drunk. For the record, I’m sitting at Cafe Hey, working by windowlight, and listening to music so that I can write about it. Baseball umps have to be the most sensitive refs in pro sports. They don’t even show instant replays on bad calls when you’re at the ballpark (IMO, so that we don’t boo their asses). Everyone makes a bad call every now and then (I didn’t even see the 1-and-2 pitch to Wise that was a point of contention), but the point is that Hallion is just another example of prideful people behind the plate and the machismo that goes into calling a baseball game. It’s a catch 22 because I like the old school, machismo thing in baseball. Hallion though, just got called out and should simply own up to it.

In somewhat unrelated news, I once had a manager that went off on me and I thought the same thing Price did. If my dad wouldn’t speak to me that way, then why should someone else be doing it?

Had a lot of fun writing this one. Wish I was there to see it...

Have we changed? Considering things, I still feel the same. Stumbling at this rate, I’ll never change.

I haven’t had this much fun listening to a record since in probably a decade. As an adult, you’re not really supposed to let lyrics and music affect the way you feel this much, but so much for being an adult person. Unfettered by whatever, T. Jones & co. put together a piece of work that will mean a lot to me for many years to come. If you haven’t, listen to it on Bandcamp and read the lyrics (to prevent mumble mouth). If you like having fun in your cubicle, then watch this video.

I’m usually not one to pick fights, but you’ve really crossed the line this time. If there’s one thing this place doesn’t need, it’s your friends and their extreme lack of sympathy.

I don’t think I can really describe how appreciative I am to be able to do any of this. Thank you countless guys and girls for supporting your community and the people in it. Working on the website (even when I’m behind) is one of the most fulfilling and fun things in the whole world.

Good things happen to people who treat fans, media, and blogs well. Congrats to Kevin Devine who crushed his Kickstarter campaign today by raising almost $60,000 in less than 12 hours.

From the first time I saw Devine open for (I think it was) Steel Train at the old Orpheum, I felt a connection. The earnest was undeniable, and listening to his 2006 Capitol Records debut Put Your Ghosts To Rest made me dig further back into his catalog where I found an equally impassioned Devine working kinks out of sonic ideas and putting philosophies and ideas that would change my view on the world to tape.

It has been a delight to follow him throughout his career thus far (two more solo LPs, more than a handful of singles/EPs, and two LPs with another band Bad Books).

All along the way his PR and management always treated me with so much respect. At one point, when a line from his one-take cover of The Smith’s “Half A Person” resonated deep enough with me to get me to write an email, Devine responded personally with the quickness.

I hope that I can return than kind of honest, sincere, and thoughtful treatment to every artist and contributor that I ever correspond with. If I haven’t, then I am truly sorry.
